The Clinical Medical Assistant Program prepares you to advance your career as an effective medical assistant in a clinical setting. This program is presented in a hybrid format. The curriculum is online and self-paced. In addition to completing the online portion of this program, you will attend monthly in-person skill labs to practice and reinforce your learning. At the end of your program, you will participate in 180 hours of clinical training. If you are interested in working at University of Utah Health Hospitals and Clinics after graduation, you may be eligible for paid clinical hours. Students will gain the skills and knowledge to be a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). The program includes a voucher to take the certification exam.

Upon successfully completing the program, students will receive a University of Utah Clinical Medical Assistant Program completion award.

What do Medical Assistants do?

What are in-person skill labs?

This portion of the program provides you with hands-on learning and practice. Our experienced instructors will be there to guide you through each learning objective! You will sign up for at least one three-hour skill lab per month. These labs are required to advance through the program and are offered on various days and times each month, Monday through Thursday, at 9 am and 1 pm.

Schedule:

The Medical Assisting program includes 265 hours of curriculum, approximately 24 hours of in-person labs, and 180 hours of clinical training (externship). Students are allowed up to one year to complete everything.

Those who dedicate at least 12 hours of study/class time per week can complete the program in nine months. Some students can complete their training in as little as six months with dedicated study habits of over 25 hours per week.
